Ben Ogwete Otim, the Lira District Chief Administrative Officer has been charged with abuse of office and Corruption by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala.
Ogwete was arrested on Monday evening from Lira City by the police detectives attached to State House Anti-Corruption Unit in allegations of abuse of office and Corruption offences.
He will reappear before the same court on 18th May 2023 to answer charges against him.
Ogwete is accused of abuse of his authority by refusing to communicate contents of letters from the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands halting all the transactions by the District Land Board on land falling within the jurisdiction of Lira City until government decides on how such land and other properties were to be shared.
“Consequently, public land in Lira continued to be fraudulently disposed off by the district officials in connivance with the District Land Board,” the charge sheet reads.
Several other district officials in Lira have been arrested and arraigned before court over the illegal disposal of public land.
A source within the district revealed that Ogwete’s retirement from public service was due in few period of time.
