Alebtong District Woman Member of Parliament, Dorcas Acen, has kicked off a program to establish a total of 14 additional youth skilling centres to improve the social livelihood of the people.
MP Acen said this project is being implemented under the Dorcas Foundation in all 14 sub counties in Alebtong district with the strict aim of skilling youths for social empowerment.
She was on Sunday, November 5th, participating in a local fundraising event at St. Thomas COU in Adwongpurmot village, Abako sub county, where she made a cash donation of one million shillings towards the construction of the residence of a parish priest of Abako church in Uganda headquarters.
Government Chief Whip Denis Hanson Obua, the MP of Ajuri County, also donated the sum of Ugx500,000 towards the project.
MP Acen said once the skill training centres are fully established, it will help in skilling youths who have dropped out of school, among others.
“Next year, we will have a programme under the Dorcas Foundation where we will have training centres in all 14 Sub Counties. It will help in training youth who have dropped out of schools with skills to change their livelihoods through job creation,” said MP Acen.
In a message delivered by MP Acen on behalf of GCW Obua, who is away on state duty, he called for community engagement in wealth creation supported by the government.
Rev. Jepenia Ivan Bono applauded MP Acen for working to empower her communities as a leader. More than 4.8 million shillings were collected in the fundraising.
A few months ago, MP Acen opened and handed over a multimillion shillings youth skills center built with support from the Dorcas Foundation in Alebtong district.
