A senior police officer attached to Alebtong Central Police Station, ASP Moses Acaye, is on the run after getting involved in a revenge attack and murder in Adjumani district.
The latest is that the Territorial Police in North West Nile Region and Adjumani CPS have put up a serious manhunt for one ASP Acaye Moses, a police officer attached to Alebtong districts as the OC station, for a revenge attack and murder by shooting of Omona Simon, a 24-year-old peasant of Lulayi village, on February 20, 2024, at around 11 a.m.
The suspect, who left his station with a pistol, reported his presence at Apaa Police Station on February 20, 2024, to follow-up investigations into the murder of his brother, Opio Emmanuel, by a mob on February 10, 2024.
He was among a team that responded to the Apaa trading center after one of the suspects was sighted. Upon reaching the trading center, he drew his pistol and shot at the victim, who was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he died.
SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said a serious manhunt for the suspect is ongoing after he went and handed over the pistol for safe custody at Lacor Hospital Police Post on February 24, 2022, and disappeared.
“The alleged perpetrator is a police officer who swore to serve and protect people from harm. It is therefore unfortunate that he abandoned his sworn oath to uphold the sanctity of life when he fatally wounded the victim,” said SCP Enanga.
He added that his actions constitute a gross abuse of police authority for the use of excessive force, which resulted in the senseless murder of Omona Simon, and we encourage him to hand over and defend himself.
