International Women’s Day is a special day designed to recognize women across the world, and it’s celebrated on March 8th annually.
It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, or political.
In Uganda, this year’s national celebration is being in Katakwi district under the theme: “Invest in women to Accelerate Progress with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, while the campaign theme for this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion.
Hon. Linda Agnes Auma, the Lira District Woman MP and vice chairperson for the National Women’s Council, has asked men to ensure special attention and support to empower women.
“I urge men to empower their women because a woman empowered is a strong woman. If you empower your women, I want to tell you that your home can never be lacking, even in your absence,” said MP Auma.
MP Auma said, “We want the government to continue empowering women through more grants because the majority of women are directly involved in different businesses. Most women are not corrupt but honest.”
She urged women to usually consult with their area leadership for further consultation on available government programs that can support their initiatives.
While meeting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on March 7th at State House Entebbe, MP Auma, together with other women’s leaders, urged the government for more special support for women.
