Last week, we revealed to you a detailed record of scores by Kole North MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti within the first two and a half years of representation in the 11th Parliament.
In the first edition, we focused on the health, education, and road sectors, but in this second edition, this publication focuses on what MP Dr. Acuti has scored in agriculture, water, and electricity sectors for the local people.
AGRICULTURE
Under agriculture, MP Acuti, together with colleague legislators from Kole District, successfully jointly lobbied for one big tractor and 11 walking tractors for each town council and sub county in Kole District.
In a bid to promote commercial agriculture, Dr. Acuti has since delivered a total of eight tons of improved seeds to 238 farmer groups within Kole North.
“Piloted a chili project with 30 farmers, which has been successful and is expected to roll out to another 1000 farmers,” reads the report.
Dr. Acuti has also been able to successfully lobby for the introduction of a crop insurance scheme for farmers, and as a result, the sum of 118 million shillings has so far been paid out to beneficiaries, with an additional 240 million shillings to be paid.
According to the midterm report, the total value of projects lobbied for and invested in is one billion shillings, according to MP Dr. Acuti.
Electricity
Through his lobbying, the government has extended 30km of power lines directly to 45 villages in Kole North, with line installation completed and awaiting commissioning.
Accordingly, a total of 646 persons whose lands and property had been affected by the electricity extension have already received compensation amounting to 409.55 million shillings.
MP Acuti also noted that the Ministry of Energy has since undertaken a survey for phase two of power line extensions in Kole North, which will soon be implemented.
According to the report, the total lobbied projects under this sector amount to 1.5 billion shillings.
Water
Under this, the office of MP Dr. Acuti has been able to successfully fund the repair of 40 boreholes (17 in Alito, 15 in Aboke, and eight in Okwerodot) in Sub-Counties.
“Engaged the district on low water coverage in sections of Kole North and a malfunctioning piped water scheme in Ayara. Additional 12 boreholes have been provided, and the piped water scheme is under plan to be revamped,” reads the report.
Dr. Acuti was also able to lobby for development partners to work with the district in the water sector.
“We are working with the district to enter into an agreement with a water NGO that will take up the rehabilitation of up to 100 boreholes for 15 years,” noted the report.
