Uganda’s economic performance slowed down between 2020 and 2023 following the shutdown when the world experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, which greatly affected several sectors, including trade and education, among others.
Therefore, the slowdown in the global economy as a result of the corona virus will continue to have a negative impact on Uganda’s economy.
Under the education sector, the country has continued to battle the impact of this pandemic, which has forced many learners to drop out of school due to inadequate income for their parents.
In an attempt to resolve this biting situation, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, a private medical institution in Lira City, has announced a massive bursary scheme to enable brilliant but needy young people to achieve their dreams of serving humanity.
Dr. Isaac Orech, the team leader of the Board of Trustees at the medical school, said the scheme code named “Covid-19 Youth Recovery Bursary” aims at supporting the education of students who are just recovering from the global impact of the pandemic.
“The half bursary covers the tuition fee for all five semesters. The student will be required to pay functional fees only,” said Dr. Orech.
Located at Ireda Agali, Lira City East Division, Lira City, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery is currently offering two programs, including a Certificate in Nursing (2½ years) and a Certificate in Midwifery (2½ years).
According to the guidelines, the student must have attained at least passes in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology in the same sitting of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and should be 18 years of age or older.
Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery is a privately established health training institution licensed by the Ministry of Education and Sports with examination center number U115.
