Police in Alebtong District are holding one of their own in connection with the recent escape of six suspects from custody.
The officer identified as Michael Anyiyira, number 79294 PC, attached to Alebtong CPS, was arrested on the orders of the District Police Commander to aid in the investigation.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kioga regional police spokesperson, said the officer’s arrest stemmed from the recent escape of six suspects who had been detained at Alebtong CPS.
“The territorial police in Alebtong District are shocked following the escape of six suspects from lawful custody that occurred on May 26, 2024, at around 2215 hours,” said SP Okema.
He adds that a case of escape from lawful custody has been registered under Alebtong GEF 007/2024, and two suspects were captured.
It is said the suspects used a metal piece to dig the floor at the bottom of the uniport to gain access out of the cell, which has been recovered and exhibited as evidence.
The suspects includes: APITA DENIS -charge of THEFT, OCEN EMMA- charge of DEFILEMENT, ONGOM TOM- charge of STEALING CATTLE, OTIM ISAAC – charge of THEFT, OCEN MOSES- charge of THEFT, and OKELLO HENRY – charge of BURGLARY AND THEFT.
