Alebtong Embarks on Massive Roads’ Rehabilitation, Set to Open Four New Roads

Alebtong district is set to construct four new roads in the next quarter in a bid to improve the road network within the area.

This was revealed by the Chairperson of the District Roads Committee, MP Dorcas Acen, on Thursday, December 28th, during joint inspections of the four roads whose rehabilitation works are underway and near completion.

MP Acen was accompanied by all the area leaders, including the Government Chief Whip, MP Denis Hamson Obua (Ajuri County), MP Samuel Okwir Odwee (Moroto), and other technical staff from the district.

She said the four roads whose works are about to be completed include the one from Oloo to Bless Hope’s signpost, Abongodyang to Tekulu to Abia Sub County Headquarters, all in Moroto County. Others are Aminomugu to Olwinyipii to Owalo and the road from Okuru trading centre to Adwir and to Odeye, all in Ajuri County.

According to the report presented by the district engineer, David Puche, they have used over 230 million shillings to fund the ongoing rehabilitation works on the four roads.

MP Acen said the district is also set to open four additional roads, including the Ajoka swamp to along Akura to Anara road and the Ogini borehole to Teamyel roads, all in Moroto County, while in Ajuri County, they will work on the Delta swamp to Aminopio swamp in Abako Sub-County.

GCW Obua emphasised government commitments to improve road infrastructure across the country to spur economic and commercial activities.

According to GCW Obua, as members of the Alebtong District Roads Committee, they are satisfied with the current work to rehabilitate the four roads.

The government has earmarked Ugx1 billion to improve the road network in Alebtong District.
