Alebtong District CAO Abenaitwe in Trouble over Absenteeism

Date:

The Alebtong District Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Abenaitwe is in trouble over reported absenteeism from duty.

David Kennedy Odongo, the Alebtong District LCV Boss says Abenaitwe has consistently been absconding from duty without explanation, a move which he claimed has slowed service delivery to local people.

According to Odongo, CAO Abenaitwe worked only for 33 days in office within the months of April, May, June, July and August.

“Imagine CAO Abenaitwe April 14th until today spent only 33 in office. In April, he only worked days, in May, he worked seven days, in June, he worked 13 days, July he only worked eight days and in August, he has not stepped at office,” said Odongo.

Recently, the district council passed a resolution referring CAO Abenaitwe back to Public Service for further management.

The same council has also written to Local Government Minster, Raphael Magyezi demanding for the removal of Abenaitwe from the district.

Theopilius Obua, a counselor representing Abia Sub County, recently claimed CAO Abenaitwe had interfered with the investigation into alleged misconduct, absenteeism of some district officials including Senior Procurement Officer, Babra Alok, District Engineer David Puce and Water Engineer Bonny Otyeno.

Attempt to speak to CAO Abenaitwe has remained futile by the time we went to press.

Abenaitwe denies the allegations from Odongo and his councilors who he accuses of being most corrupt and greedy, wanting to arm-twist him into succumbing to their illegal gymnastics.

With only one year to retirement, Abenaitwe who has worked in many districts including Bushenyi, Mitooma,Kagadi, Kiryandongo,Hoima, Nakasongola and Ibanda, among others advises Odongo and his councilors to work hard instead of thinking they can grab money in the local government.

Without mincing words, Abenaitwe described the councilors as poverty-stricken who use blackmail so that they are given leeway to grab money from prospective contractors.
