Alebtong MP Acen Delivers Seeds, Rallies Residents on Wealth Creation

A total of 2,500 tons of sunflower seeds and mama kits have been delivered to residents of Alebtong district by the woman member of parliament, Dorcas Acen (NRM).

MP Acen also delivered a total of 10 million shillings to various women’s groups, assorted mama kits to expectant mothers, and sanitary pads to girls as a means to enable them to stay at school.

The items were delivered to beneficiaries on Tuesday, March 14th, during the belated Women’s Day celebration held at Abia Primary School. 

She encouraged her constituents to embrace commercial farming based on the four-acre model practice being promoted by the government as the only way to create wealth.

“I encourage parents to ensure equal opportunities for both boys and girls by educating all of them.  Let’s ensure that our girl children stay in school and achieve a better education for a better future. They should be protected from defilement, teen pregnancy, and early marriages. These are the factors leading to school dropouts for many girls,” MP Dorcas Acen said.

MP Acen, also the Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Equal Opportunity Committee, applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for being the first African president to empower women by trusting them with higher positions of authority in government, including Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, and other top positions.

In her sermon, MP Acen further cautioned local residents against domestic violence, saying it impedes struggles to create wealth, girl child education, and women’s empowerment.

MP Acen said that the distribution of seeds to her constituents is a periodic exercise that she has been implementing to boost agricultural production among her people.

The items were procured and delivered under the Dorcas’ Foundation in a bid to economically empower residents of the Alebtong district, whom she represents in the 11th Parliament.

Alebtong women also used the occasion to condemn homosexuality and tasked MP Acen to support the current anti-homosexuality bill and ensure that it is passed.

They further pronounced their total support for President Yoweri Museveni and urged him to contest the 2026 general elections.

During the same ceremony, Dickens Kennedy Odongo, the Alebtong district LCV Chairperson, asked the government to support the women’s productivity as the only way to empower their economic status.
