Dickens Kennedy Odongo, the district LCV chairperson, said this is the first time Alebtong district shall be hosting a national event since it was carved from Lira District in 2010.

Odongo welcomes the decision to have Alebtong host the national event, describing it as a credit to the current leadership.

According to UBOS, the population of Alebtong district by 2020 was estimated to be slightly above 266,000.

World Population Day is an annual event observed on July 11 every year. It aims to increase people’s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

The current world population is somewhat near 7.9 billion and is increasing every second as we are reading this. There is an urgent need to find a way to control the situation, or else we will need another Earth and its resources just for survival.

According to UNFPA, this year’s focus is on how to safeguard the health and rights of women and girls now and put the brakes on COVID-19.
