Amb. Amoru Roots for Value Additions As Uganda, S.Africa Agree to Waive VISA

Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Paul Amoru, has called for value additions on Uganda’s agricultural products in a bid to attract more markets across the region.

Amb. Amoru said that value addition in the form of fruit wine production is a game changer for farmers, adding that by transforming fruit into a value-added product, farmers can earn higher incomes and contribute to our economic growth.

“Uganda’s matooke is not just a staple food, but a rich source of untapped economic potential. By adding value through processing and packaging techniques, matooke is transformed into a high-value export product,” said Amb. Amoru.

According to Amb. Amoru, the recently held Uganda-South Africa Business Forum in Pretoria is already accelerating trade between the two countries.

“It is truly humbling to witness the impact of the state visit by HE Kaguta Museveni during the SA Business Forum. As a key organiser, I had the opportunity to interact with the business community from both Uganda and South Africa on the benefits of the enhanced business ties,” he noted.

Ambassador Amoru said that following the successful South Africa-Uganda Business Forum, the two countries have made serious inroads towards visa waivers and a roadmap towards January 2024 for successful implementation.

By fostering collaboration and partnership, we can drive sustainable growth and development for both countries. Let’s continue to build on the momentum of this event and work towards a mutually beneficial future,” the ambassador said.

He called for a renewed synergy in accelerating trade between Uganda and South Africa.

“Let’s continue to work together to build strong economic bridges and unlock the full potential of our economies,” the ambassador noted.

President Yoweri Museveni recently demanded that NRM leaders embrace value addition on all the farm products in Uganda in order to maximise profit and attract better markets.
