Amb. Ogwang to Meet Religious Leaders; Museveni Orders for Close Monitoring of Current Affairs in Lango

Date:

Ambassador Dickson Ogwang-Okul, the potential “successor” of the Lango Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii, is set to engage with religious leaders in Lango on the possible way of conducting a unifying elective endorsement.

The move aims to secure a peaceful transition in Lango Cultural Leadership for a tranquil and harmonious community of Lango.

H.H. Odur recently announced that he had handed Amb. Ogwang the leadership mantle of Lango Cultural Institution and blessed him as his possible successor in November once the due electoral process is held.

“After meeting the clergymen, including Moslem Clerics, Ambassador Ogwang will again meet all the Owitong loyal to Mzee Yosam Odur who are legitimate holders of Lango Cultural Government with the mandate to oversee the transition to come up with the Electoral Commission team that will work on the elective affirmation of the new Won Nyaci by the people of Lango,” reads the statement released on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

A source has revealed that H.E. President Museveni has picked interest in Ogwang’s appointment by H.H. Odur and the 44 key Owitong, who do not agree with the controversial election of March 2024 since it did include all the legitimate clan heads and other leadership.

Some of the notable clan heads include Hon. Sam Engola, a senior presidential advisor and head of the Otikokin Clan; Levi Okodi Macpio, a senior presidential advisor; former Minister Omara Atubu; former Deputy Inspector General of Police; Mr. Julius Peter Odee; Dr. Ocen Laury, also a senior advisor to the president and political advisor to Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero; NRM MP Lira City; and Minister of Health.

According to a reliable source, President Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of all Armed Forces, has directed security agencies, including intelligence, to closely monitor the current affairs in Lango following the pronouncement by H.H. Odur after he had picked Amb. Ogwang as his possible successor.

“The President has ordered the security to look into the latest developments in the Lango Cultural Foundation and its implications in the sub region regarding effective implementation of government programs,” said the source.

We have also established that key Ministers who are loyal to President Museveni and the NRM from the Lango region, including Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip, and Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, have slowly started distancing themselves from Mr. Odongo Okune and his coronation plans with Won Nyaci’s endorsement of Ambassador Ogwang.

Lango Cultural Institution’s Prime Minister James Ajal recently wrote to the Gender Ministry, informing the government about the decision of H.H. Odur to select Amb. Ogwang as his possible successor in November 2024.
