The government of Uganda, in partnership with the German government, has embarked on the construction of a piped water supply system in Zombo Town Council, Zombo District.
The project, which will cost Ugx5.3 billion, is aimed at ensuring clean water reaches the residents of Zombo town council and the neighboring sub-counties of Nyapea and Athuma through the construction of reservoir tanks at Aliza and Ajere hills.
On Thursday, March 9th, King Albert Construction Engineering Company received the project, which is expected to be completed within one year.
At the handover, Yusuf Lule, the engineer of Water and Sanitation Development Facility-North, said that under the same project, 10 stands of toilets will be constructed at Zombo’s main market, four stands at Zombo’s lower primary school, and an office block for NWSC at Zombo Town Council.
However, according to Yusuf’s government, it has also received separate funding from the German government.
“The government has also received separate funding from the German government to construct a piped water supply system in the rapidly growing urban centers of Zeu in Zeu sub-county and Alangi trading center in Alangi sub-county,” he said.
James Uyullu Uruna, chairperson of Zombo district, urged the contractor to ensure that the district receives value for money from the investment as well as the partnership, which is the only hope for the residents of Zombo town council and neighboring sub-counties to resolve their water problems.
In addition, Naftali Uchamagiu, the Chairperson of LC III Zombo Town Council, said that the authorities had secured the land for the wall and compensated the landowners.
Zombo has 1,402 domestic water points that serve a total of 247,571 people, including 208,801 in rural areas.
