Lira District Woman MP Linda Agnes Auma has delivered assorted scholastic materials to the best-performing candidates in the 2023 primary leaving examinations.
On Friday, February 9th while handing the materials, which included metallic boxes and mattresses, to the beneficiaries drawn from Ayami and Wiodyek Sub-Counties, Jacob Ocen, the political assistant to MP Auma, said this was aimed at encouraging learners to compete and perform well in their national examinations.
“I believe such efforts will act as a goalpost for other pupils to work harder and score good grades in the future,” said MP Auma.
MP Auma noted that the initiative to reward the best PLE performers shall be annual as a way to encourage competition among learners.
She encouraged parents to prioritize the education of girl children and cautioned against subjecting them to early marriages.
For pupils who will excel in 2024 PLE, MP Auma pledged a bigger reward, adding that a special education foundation, which she is setting up, will embark on scouting for more support for girl children.
Out of the 169 local government units in the country, Lira was ranked number 120, representing 25.3% of last year’s PLE performance, and according to MP Auma, several children from rural schools in Lira district competed well.
