BREAKING: Lango Paramount Chief His Highness Odur Ebii Names Successor

Lango Paramount Chief, His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii, has named Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul, the head of the Pala-Ocol clan, as his successor in the November 2024 transitional plan.

This was announced on June 3rd, 2023, during a private meeting in which His Highness Odur has summoned at his Te-Boke- based palace in Apac district.

“Today, Monday, June 3rd, 2024. His Highness the Won Nyaci of Lango, Mzee Yocam Odur Ebii, invited Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul to give him blessings and asked him to start the lawful process of taking over Lango Cultural Leadership as Won Nyaci of Lango. This follows His Highness’ recent notice of abdication on November 1, 2024,” reads the statement from the Palace.

The ceremony in which Odur performed some critical cultural rituals was witnessed by his top Cabinet members, including the Senior Advisor to His Highness Frederick Ogwal Oyee, who is the head of the Inomo Clan, and Senior Academician Dr. Laury Lawrence Ocen, the head of the of the Okarowok Wibye Acel clan.

Others were Awitong Anthony Olobo (Atek-Omwonpel), who is also the son of His Highness Odur Ebii, and his daughter Millie Odur, who is also the caretaker of his estate.

Born on April 14, 1958 (age 66 years), Ambassador Ogwang, who had earlier declined calls from other Lango Elders to vie for Lango Cultural Leadership, humbly accepted High Highness Odur’s challenge and received blessings from the Paramount Chief.

The Won Nyaci tasked his son to give support to Ambassador Ogwang Okul, to which the latter happily pledged his unwavering support to ensure that he becomes the next leader of Lango.

Amb. Ogwang Okul promised H. H. the Won Nyaci that he will now go out and follow all legal steps in preparation for a lawful, peaceful, and humble takeover of the Lango Cultural Throne of Won Nyaci come November 1st, 2024.

WHO IS AMB OGWANG OKUL?

Aged 66, Amb. Ogwang Dickson holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University, Kampala; a Masters of Administrative Science in Diplomacy and International Relations from Farleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ; a specialized diploma in prosecutions and diploma in laws from the Law Development Center, Kampala; a Certificate in Leadership and Governance from the Leadership Institute, Arlington, Virginia; and an Advanced Certificate in Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of Ex-Combatants (with broad knowledge of the United Nations’ Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Standards).

He is a strong believer in negotiated settlement of disputes and a Certified Conciliator with proven skills in preserving and promoting social cohesion through conciliation, as certified by the Institute for Christian Conciliation, a division of Peacemaker Ministries, USA Inc.

A respected community leader in his home land, Ogwang, has two decades of professional development and practice in national and international leadership with a broad understanding of the socio-economic and political environments of Uganda and the region. He qualifies as an administrative scientist, lawyer, and diplomat with expertise in global systems.

He has worked with the government of Uganda as an officer in the armed forces, a prosecutor in the Directorate of Prosecutions, and a Foreign Service officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Awitong Ogwang also serves with various local and international social transformation organizations, including Targeted Aquaponics Growth, USA Inc., where he is the appointed senior executive advisor. He is also the president of the Ogwang-Okul Foundation and a consulting partner at Foundation Leads Limited.

A recipient of a number of Distinguished Service Awards, including the Presidential Award for his role in the Northern Uganda Pacification, Dickson was appointed by the President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in 2010 as Deputy Ambassador to Washington, D.C. He also served as Special Envoy of the President of Uganda to the United States to work on Counter-Lords Resistant Army and Northern Uganda Peace and Recovery Issues.”

Served as Deputy Chief of Mission, also responsible for public diplomacy at the Uganda Embassy in Washington, DC, Ogwang was recalled to Headquarters in January 2018 and deployed at the Regional and International Economic Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served in the Diaspora Department.

Since February 1st, 2021, Dickson Ogwang has been serving at the Uganda Embassy in Sudan as Head of Chancery.

  1. Let the obsessed men slug it out for supremacy. But even the little symbolism value of the alien institution is wearing out, before it takes root. It beggars the question; ‘what is in it that the ordinary mind does not see?’

    Going forward this central government support of UGX 60m per month should end, and the responsibility of supporting cultural institutions fall back squarely to the subjects. It is only then that we shall know genuine cultural leaders and institutions.
