The Lango Cultural Foundation has kicked off the electoral process for the new Won Nyaci weeks after Yosam Odur, the reigning leader, passed his mantle and blessed Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul.
On Sunday, June 16th, at the Palm Gardens Hotel in Lira City, several clan heads who are loyal to H.H. Odur’s leadership named eight members to manage the election of the new leader.

In their petition, the clan heads believe Dr. Okune was elected in accordance with the Constitution and argue that Minister Betty Amongi’s decision was irregularly conducted. They also resolved to challenge her actions in court.
The clan heads expressed concern about the manner in which Minister Amongi conducted herself in the leadership dispute at Lango Cultural Institution.
The meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister James Ajal said the arrangements to meet with President Museveni have been concluded.

The intentions to create confusion in Lango is highly debatable
May the sponsor of this online relinquish their suppiority
Traditionally, Lango has had many power centres, with many powerful clan chiefs reigning from different corners of the territory concurrently. The idea that Lango should have one indisputable leader is not only alien, but also unrealistic. In a society where a new clan is formed every two years, it is high deception to think that a single authority can be propped and sustained.
Sociologists did not describe Lango as an ‘egalitarian society’ for nothing. It’s because Lango is a society of fiercely independent thinkers who can not sit easy under anybody’s domination unless they are absolutely convinced of the benefits therefrom.
My advice to the contending cultural leaders is to forget about leading one cultural institution. Just lead those who agree with you (some will even keep changing their allegiance) and pray that a third contender does not emerge sooner or later.
Lango will unite over issues that pose existential threats to it; who heads the politically engineered and modified Tekwaro Lango/LCF is NOT one of them.
