Dr. Alwoc Battles Limping Support as UPC, NRM Front Flag Bearers

Date:

The presumed victory chance for Dr. Rosemary Alwoc to replace her late mother, Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, in the 11th Parliament has continued to dwindle day by day.

This stemmed from the recent decisions by the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party to front Sara Aguti Nyangkori as their official flag bearer against Dr. Alwoc.

Fred Ebil Ebil, the UPC Secretary General, said they are extremely optimistic that Nyangkori will emerge victorious in the Dokolo by-election and will deliver effective representation as the perfect match for the late MP Ogwal and her daughter, Dr. Alwoc.

Recently, the NRM Party also fronted Janet Adong Elau as the official party flag bearer in the Dokolo by-election.

Beatrice Abang, the Dokolo District NRM party chairperson, and Irene Among are among the independent aspirants in the race to replace the late Ogwal.

Shockingly, even the opposition National Unity Platform, NUP party, which previously failed to attract flag bearers, is now fully represented in the race after a prominent disgruntled NRM cadre offered to carry their flag.

A section of local political analysts have expressed concern in the manner in which the recent moves could immensely hamper Dr. Alwoc’s victory chance.

They have also reflected on the political sentiment on the ground, painting Alwoc as a non-resident of Dokolo since she hails from Alito Sub County in Kole, where her late mother Ogwal was married.

Recently, a source placed both NRM and UPC Party flag bearers as those in the lead.

The Electoral Commission has designated March 21st as the day to elect a new Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament to replace the late Ogwal.
