The National Resistance Movement party secretariat has confirmed they will conduct a primary election to select the flag bearer for the Oyam North by-election to replace the assassinated former Labour Minister, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo.

On Monday, June 12th, 2023, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, said the party secretariat is in preparation to conduct primary elections to select the party flag bearer.

He said the primaries will either on Wednesday, or Thursday this week.

“We are going to have constituency conference this week to get the flag bearer. It’s good that all those who have shown interest are conducting consultation with party supporters,” said Odoi.

His pronouncement has now put to rest the claim that the NRM party was plotting to ring-fence the party flag for Junior Engola, a son of the deceased, like it did in Omoro County when the former speaker of Parliament, late Jacob Oulanyah, passed on.

A total of nine people, including Queen Dorothy Amolo, Willy Omodo Omodo, Augustine Obangakene, Amb. Julius Peter Moto, Daniel Bala, Alfred Okello Obaro, Samuel Engola Junior, and Billie Otoo, among others, are vying for the NRM party flag in Oyam North.
