On Sunday, June 17th, 2024, Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, whose election as the new Won Nyaci of Lango is being challenged, held an extensive meeting with a section of local journalists and broadcasters from within the region.

The meeting that was held at his home based in Lira City’s senior quarters stemmed from the recent declaration by H.H. Yosam Odur to denounce Okune’s election, which he described as a sham.
H.H. Odur immediately passed his leadership mantle to Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul and blessed him for the job once he could be elected to succeed his administration.
In the same meeting, Dr. Okune cautioned journalists against exposing the current stalemate happenings at the Lango Cultural Institution and Lango Cultural Foundation, which could jeopardize his planned coronation.
He urged the local media to always safeguard the secrets at the cultural institution, which could tarnish the image of the top leadership.
A source who attended this meeting said Dr. Okune, whose election has been sharply criticized by both H.H. Odur and a section of clan leaders, emphasized the need to enhance positive reporting about his administration at the Lango Cultural Institution.

The journalists told Dr. Okune about how they are often used and dumped (stepping stones) and also thanked him for pledging to provide tree seedlings, facilitate scholarships, and assist with job connections.
Dr. Okune’s March election continues to face rejection from both within and in the Diaspora, with many advising that he should apologize to the reigning Lango Cultural Leader, H.H. Odur, and foster unity and reconciliation.
The journalists were later served a special boiled goat meal (lunch) and handed a transport facilitation ranging between Shs30,000 and 80,000/= depending on your media influence and tasked to block negative against Dr. Okune’s administration.
