The District Service Commissions from the nine districts in Lango sub region and Lira City has been accused of giving jobs depending on the amount of money or sex delivered by the applicant.
They are also blamed for giving priority to their relatives during every recruitment.
Rev. James Awany, the Lira District Service Commission chairperson and also chairperson of all the nine heads of the DSC in the Lango sub-region, told journalists on Monday that he has received complaints from various sources, including victims of this malicious act, who confessed how at times female applicants are tasked to deliver either sex or money for a job opportunity, while male applicants are made to pay huge sums of money.
Rev. Awany, a retired civil servant and the University lecturer, called upon anti-corruption agencies including State House Anti-ACU, the Internal Security Organization Anti-Corruption Desk, CID, and IGG, among others, to investigate this practice, saying it directly impedes service delivery.
According to Rev. Awany, corruption is not only in the DSC but also in other sectors, including health and education; therefore, it must be urgently handled by the authority, adding that some DSC members have been directly involved in such practices.
He further cautioned civil servants to avoid being late to work, describing it as another form of corruption that must not be tolerated.
An applicant whose identity has been withheld said he applied for the job of a medical officer but was asked to pay Ugx5million or he miss the job in one of the districts in Lango.
According to sources, jobs at DSC in Lqngo are sold for between one million and above depending on the position, but one can even pay up to five million shillings.
Lango sub-region has a total of nine districts, including Lira, Okute, Alebtong, Dokolo, Amolatar, Apac, Oyam, Kole, Kwania, and Lira City.
