On May 1st, 2023, while Ugandans had gathered at Namutumba District headquarters to celebrate International Labour Day, where President Yoweri Museveni was the chief guest, the popular MK Movement political storm hit the Lango sub region, capturing the land of the former two-time President, late Dr. Apollo Milton Obote.
In an event held at the Mayor’s Gardens in Lira City that was predominantly attended by a multitude of local residents from across all political divides, both youths, women, and men, including Hon.Sam Engola, the Presidential Advisor in Charge of the Lango Sub region endorsed Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the next President of Uganda after President Museveni.
“We welcome Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Standby Generator, to the Lango Sub region. The youths have made their voices clear that they have their standby generator, and so in case the president says he will not stand, we are ready to rally behind Gen. Kainerugaba,” said Engola.
According to Engola, in the event that President Museveni is not contesting for the presidency, he is ready to support Gen.MK as the next President of Uganda.
Balaam Ateenyi, the National Vice Chairman of MK Movement, later announced that Engola had been appointed the Guardian and Patron of MK Movement in the Lango sub region.
Several senior leaders from Lango, including the Lango Parliamentary Group Chairperson, MP Judith Alyek, and Kwania County MP Tony Ayo, among others, have endorsed Gen.MK as the standby generator in the event that President Museveni has opted not to contest for the Presidency.
