The battle for a Lira City woman representative in the 12th parliament has continued to record a daily political mobilization escalation between the Gender, Labour, and Social Development Minister, Betty Amongi, and Health Minister, Dr. Jane Aceng also the incumbent Lira City woman Member of Parliament.
Recently, this website revealed how the current fight between the two senior ministers erupted when Minister Amongi accused Dr. Aceng of misinforming the President on Lango political affairs.
A highly placed source has revealed that top NRM planners, plotters, and machineries both at plot 10, Parliament, and Entebbe have remained silently impressed and excited with Minister Amongi’s apparent bid to contest for the Lira City Woman seat come 2026.
Born on November 15th, 1975, Minister Amongi, according to sources, reportedly whispered to the NRM’s political master card holder her idea to run against Dr. Aceng and subsequently briefed him about her intentions to kick-start massive ground political mobilisation and how it was rightly approved with strict assurances and cautions.
The source also briefed us how Minister Amongi conducted clandestine consultations with several top NRM plotters before going public with her intention to oust Dr. Aceng.
It should be recalled that prior to 2021 election campaign activities, President Museveni, in one of his televised national addresses on COVID-19, uttered a statement about Dr. Aceng’s then interest in Lira City and told her to return to Nakasero, where he had guaranteed for her a constituency.

According to pundits, it’s upon this background that Amongi’s bid for Lira City could be part of a high-level clandestine orchestration within the ruling party to rather deploy a hardcore political brain armed with demonstrated mobilization skills that can dislodge rising threats from the National Unity Platform party.
A senior political strategist at Nakasero told this writer how Minister Amongi’s current bid had been long in the offing and was expected to have erupted in 2021 but was somehow toned down upon the directives of NRM’s mightier.
The source has also revealed how Minister Amongi’s political strengths and capacity have been rated as mightier and deeply rooted to drive impressive mobilization activities for the ruling party and President Museveni.
To many NRM Cadres, including former CEC representative and ex-Minister Sam Engola, Minister Amongi’s love and commitment to serving the NRM party is a timely and critical arrival that should be fully embraced.
Engola has recently been accompanying Minister Amongi to various public functions in Lira City to drum up support for the party.
Amongi’s bid has also received a huge political blessing from both the NRM and opposition stalwarts, according to a source in her camp.
Recently, Minister Amongi rehydrated her political mobilization team within Lira City, a move that woke up Dr. Aceng from political slumber, prompting her to embark on a constituent tour.
