I will Stand for Presidency in 2026-Gen Muhoozi

Date:

The Special Presidential Advisor in charge of special operations and the former Commander Land Forces in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has declared that he will contest to become the President of Uganda during the 2026 general elections.

“You have wanted me to say it forever! Okay, in the name of Jesus Christ, my God, in the name of all the young people of Uganda and the world, and in the name of our great revolution, I will stand for the presidency in 2026!” tweeted Gen. Kainerugaba on Wednesday night.

Gen. Kainerugaba, also the first son, was promoted to a four-star general of the UPDF by His Excellency, also the Commander in Chief of all the armed forces last year, and removed from being the CLF.

“How many agree with me that our time has come?” Enough of the old people ruling us.  Dominating us.  It’s time for our generation to shine. “Retweet and like,” Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.

In 2022, Gen Muhoozi’s supporters and peers who had been wishing him to become the next president of Uganda staged several mobilizations across the country and held various birthday party events in a bid to popularise MK Army.

In his recent late-night and early-morning tweets, Gen. Kainerugaba also claimed there is no opposition in Uganda, a statement once made by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the ruling NRM party’s national chairman.

“There is no opposition in Uganda. There is only truth and lies! The time for the people to choose between them is fast approaching,” tweeted Gen. MK.

In justifying his move to become the next President of Uganda, Gen. MK cited world leaders whom he described as young and able.

“The Prime Minister of the UK is 42 years old, and the Prime Minister of Finland is 37 years old. Some of us are hitting 50 years old. We are tired of waiting forever. We will take a stand! said Gen. MMK.

The decision by the first son, Gen. MK, to contest against his father has attracted wide debate among all political divides, including both within the ruling NRM and opposition parties.

Within the NRM party, several senior leaders and former Bush war generals, including Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Kahinda Otaffire, Minister Eveline Anite, Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, and Vice President Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo, among others, have openly backed President as the NRM presidential candidate in the 2026 elections.

FDC strongman, Col (Rtd) Kizza Besigye, also a former NRA Bush war officer, criticised the decision, claiming Muhoozi has been long groomed by President Museveni as his successor.

President Yoweri Museveni last year, while at a public function, said the MK army has helped in silencing the opposition group aligned with People Power led by Robert Kyagulanyi, whom he said had been making political noise across the country.
