ISO’s Strategies to Deliver 2024 National Census Revealed

Date:

Uganda is set to carry out its 6th national population census on the night of the 9th, leading to May 10th, 2024. The recruitment of more than 120,000 enumerators and other census officials by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, UBOS to manage the exercise across the country ends today, Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Nile Times has established that Internal Security Organization (ISO) has lined up a series of clandestine measures across the country to ensure that the forthcoming exercise is successfully implemented.

Whereas the exercise is being directly implemented by UBOS, the latest is that ISO has heightened both overt and covert strategies to guarantee success.

According to the source, ISO top bosses have directed their massive apparatuses deployed across the country to closely work with the census team, including enumerators, supervisors, and other local government officials, during the exercise.

In addition to the above, a source has revealed that ISO has fully activated its spy tools to counter any move aiming to sabotage the forthcoming exercises.

Last week, while addressing more than 700 census officials who had been trained by UBOS from Munyonyo Speke Resort Hotel, Col. Emmy Katabazi, the Deputy Director General of ISO, said all the staff deployed in the countryside have been ordered to actively engage in the exercise.

They are Regional Internal Security Officers (RISO), District Internal Security Officers (DISO), and Gombola Internal Security Officers (GISO), among others.

To ensure massive success, Col. Katabazi revealed that the team has been fully empowered with well-serviced vehicles and motorbikes to support UBOS in the coming exercise.

He emphasized that ISO takes the forthcoming census seriously because it’s the only way the country can obtain credible data about its population to guide the country’s strategic planning for its citizens.

“As ISO, we take this national census exercise very seriously. When a country doesn’t plan well, the effect comes back to the local person; effective data facilitates and guides the development of the country through planning,” said Col. Katabazi.

The 2024 census, according to Chris Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, will be digitized, including payments by the enumerators, to avoid the costs of middlemen.
