More than 1000 local farmers in Kole District have received compensation after recording poor crop yields.
MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North County, while presiding over the event held at Alito Sub County Headquarters on Thursday, March 7th, said farmers were paid compensation by the Agro Consortium.
Dr. Opio said most of the farmers had poor yields due to drought and excessive rainfall; therefore, they had to be compensated to recover from the losses they could have encountered.
“A total payment of Ugx360 million was made. Some farmers paid insurance premiums as low as 10,000 Ugx but received compensation of up to 400,000 Ugx,” said MP Dr. Opio Acuti.
He said the programme will go a long way in cushioning beneficiaries from the shocks of climate change.
The agricultural insurance was introduced in Kole North by MP Acuti to the farmers in 2022, and ever since, the beneficiaries have been receiving huge financial compensation from the Agro Consortium.
