Lango College’s old students have announced plans to build a standard learning structure in an attempt to encourage performance and revamp the school, once known and rated the best in the country.
Structures at Lango College are in dilapidated state and are now a risk to both learners and staff of the school.
Several classrooms at the school are already condemned and are on the verge of collapsing and situation has resulted into a dire shortage of learning space.
In attempt to rescue the situation, old students on Saturday, April 7th, met at the school during their annual general meeting and announced plans to build a new mega structure.
Dr. Edward Okori, the chairperson of the Lango College Old Students Association (LACOSA), said they intend to build a modern structure named after former American president John Fitzgerald Kennedy since the current one is in a dilapidated state.

According to Dr. Okori, once built, the new structure will also house a modern library, a science laboratory, and an excellent centre for technology.
He believes the structure will be a centre of excellence in science not only in Lango but for the entire country.
To raise funds, Dr. Okori said a huge fundraising drive will soon be launched worldwide.
He notes that General Akandwanho Caleb, aka Salim Saleh, will soon visit the school at the invitation of the Board of Governors and Old Students Association to spur the fundraising drive.
George Piwang Jalobo, an old Lango College student, said the structure will host all science laboratories for both ordinary and advance levels (S.1-S.6), an engineering centre, an ICT laboratory, a robotics centre, among others.
Piwang, who is also the chairperson for Amor Investment Ltd. in Pakwach, said preparation is underway to embark on a three-year global resource mobilisation strategy, which will be launched by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni anytime this year.
Dr. Robinson Ogwang, another Lango College student, welcomed the initiative, saying the centre will be equipped with several electronic books for learners to benefit from.
David Naphtali Oyuru, the chairperson of the Board of Governors, encouraged the Old Students Association (LACOSA) and assured them of their full support.
He appreciated the decision by LACOSA to build a new modern learning structure that will be the centre of excellence.
Sammy Bob Okino, the head teacher of Lango College, is optimistic that the school, once regarded as the best in the country, will once again resurrect and shine among top learning centres.
Lango College produced several top officials, including Dr. Eng Charles Wana Etyam, former chairperson of the Makerere University Council; David Geoffrey Opio Okello, former deputy governor of the Bank of Uganda; Tom Okello Obong, director of the National Forestry Authority; and Dennis Hamson Obua, the government chief whip, among others.
