Lango Parliamentary Group, LPG, an umbrella group of all Members of Parliament from the Lango sub region, has welcomed the election of the new Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) of Lango, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune.

Dr. Okune was voted on Friday as the next Won Nyaci of Lango during an election that attracted over 130 out of 149 clan chiefs in Lango and over 1800 delegates drawn from different clans.
In her congratulatory message, MP Judith Alyek (Kole Woman MP), the chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, welcomed the election of Dr. Okune and pledged to closely work with his administration to foster development in the region.
“I welcome his election, and that is what we have been waiting for; therefore, we shall jointly work to develop our people. We are sure this will restore unity and peace among the community of Lango under one paramount chief,” said MP Alyek.
MP Alyek further congratulated clan leaders upon electing a new Won Nyaci and asked them to remain united under one leadership.
Kyoga County MP Moses Junior Okot Bitek (FDC) who attended the election promised to deliver give all the support the New Won Nyaci needs saying a new order and new establishment has come on the cultural leadership of Lango.

MP Okot says he now has no more reason having witnessed the hundreds of clan chiefs and their delegates from all corners who turned up for the election which was described as free and fair.
Health Minister Dr. Ruth Aceng was the first to congratulate Eng. Dr. Okune upon his victory.
The current Won Nyaci, Yosam Odur, is due to retire sometime in November 2024.
