Minister Amongi Attacks Bishop Olwa Over Lira City Politics; Declares a Do or Die War against Dr. Aceng

Date:

The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Betty Amongi Akena, has attacked Prof. Alfred Olwa, the Anglican Church Bishop in Lango, accusing him of meddling in the Lira City politics.

While featuring on the heated radio talk show on Unity FM on Saturday, 12th 2024, Minister Amongi (UPC), who has launched a daring move to unseat the Lira City Woman MP, also the Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng claimed Bishop Olwa is against her political interests.

“Today, I want to request Bishop Prof. Olwa,  stay away from the politics of Lira City because it can cause you problems. I am now back and ready. I’m a Catholic; my husband and children are all Anglican. My problem is that when you harass people who want to benefit from my support, they shy away. I’m aware of what you secretly discussed with the NRM Richard Todwong and Dr. Tanga Odoi. My support and the electoral victory here will backfire and expose some people.”

In her message, Minister Amongi also revealed how Ministry of Health officials had been leaking her vital documents and administrative reports, revealing the dark side of Dr. Aceng from the time she was first appointed as Director General of Health Services and later the Minister of Health.

Before pinning Aceng for frustrating her effort to lobby for better health care services, Amongi boasted of how top officials at MOH often mock her and others from Lango whenever they attempt to lobby for services: “How can you approach us for better health services when your sister, Dr. Aceng, is the overall top boss here? We cannot help you…” said Amongi.

She further pinned Dr. Aceng of deliberately blocking the foreign treatment of Dr. Agnes Apea in India, yet the Parliamentary Medical Board had already recommended pending Aceng’s approval, a claim that has not been independently verified.

Moderated by Jimmy Ohuru Onapa, aka DJ Cool, the proprietor of Radio Unity, Minister Amongi eloquently exposed why she is aspiring to unseat Minister Aceng from Parliament.

“Minister Aceng frustrated our efforts to have a modern hospital constructed in Kamdini, Oyam district, by the SynoHydro Company that was building Karuma Hydro power station as part of their cooperate social responsibility,” Amongi noted.

Amongi said: “Aceng refused to have this medical facility coded by the Ministry of Health to become a general hospital after it was fully built, in addition to refusing to receive it during the handover.”

Minister Amongi further blamed Aceng for deliberately rejecting the proposal to fully upgrade Apac Hospital to have modern facilities since it’s the only general hospital in Lango.

“Imagine, when a team from Apac went to meet Dr. Aceng to request more funding for rehabilitation, she arrogantly chased them away, claiming she had just sent one billion Shillings to Apac but was squandered, Amongi claimed.

She said, “Aceng has for many years refused to implement presidential directives to upgrade three health center IVs to district hospitals, including Anyeke, Dokolo, and Alebtong. Let’s stop praising someone when it’s the government programs.”

Minister Amongi revealed that after the 2021 election, Minister Aceng attacked her during the cabinet meeting, claiming she had successfully defeated the UPC party in Lango.

“During the cabinet meeting, Aceng told President how she had defeated UPC, and including Akena, who is now politically weakened, while pointing at me, I got annoyed. Aceng has not done a lot in Lango at all compared to other regions,” said Amongi.
