MP Auma Clarifies Promotion of Aluminum Saucepans, Energy Cooking Stoves

Date:

The Lira district woman Member of Parliament, Linda Auma, has clarified why she is currently promoting the use of aluminum saucepans and energy-saving stoves among rural families in her constituency.

In 2021, MP Auma pledged to give every household in Lira district an aluminium saucepan and a set of energy-saving stoves that require the use of minimal firewood to cook meals.

On Wednesday, March 13th, MP Auma explained her reasons as to why she prioritized the massive distribution of these items to voters.

According to her, the distribution of aluminium saucepans to women followed the distribution of energy-saving stoves, which require a strong stove to use successfully.

“Do you know how many women are dying with chest problems, especially at old age? The reason is that most of them inhaled a lot of smoke throughout their lives from their kitchens.

That’s why I mobilize the women to embrace energy-saving cooking stoves. The stove is very hot, and it’s destroying the other light saucepans because every house in Erute north has so far installed the stoves, and now they are in Erute south,” said Auma.

She further explained that before embarking on empowering every household with the energy cooking stove, she sensitized women on its relevance and how it could enable them to adopt the current climate change.

“With the current climate change, there is no forest for firewood; do you know how women suffer in getting firewood? The saucepans are hot, first in cooking, and don’t take much firewood. I have accompanied the saucepans issues with sensitizing the women on how to reduce gender-based violence and how to handle a family, being submissive, caring, and loving by being responsible in all forms, especially in raising the children,” she noted.

According to her, this has been very critical in helping her to resolve gender-based violence other than by advising women to imprison or abandon their homes and leave the children to suffer.

“All the other developmental projects can only succeed when the house is stable. But above everything, there is no unilinear way of unpacking a development agenda. Every actor has the liberty to adopt whatever approaches are customized to fit their unique thought process and other attenuating circumstances. I am equally charting my pathways during my term in office. I am happy it captures your attention in one way or another,” MP Auma emphasized.

The distribution of these items started last year in Aromo Sub County, and she has since extended it to other sub counties.

Early this week, MP Auma delivered hundreds of these saucepans and cooking stoves to several households in Ogur Sub County.
