The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party in Lira District has suffered a huge setback following the massive defection of stalwarts to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
On Saturday, June 8th 2024, Lira district Woman MP Linda Agnes Auma, also the NRM party area vice chairperson, welcomed over 100 FDC stalwarts from Ogur Sub County after they had defected.
This is the latest defection to NRM by the opposition supporters Lango subregion.
While welcoming the defectors to NRM during a function held at Imatoikwoto village, Akano parish, Ogur sub county, MP Auma and the Lira district NRM publicity secretary, as well as her personal assistant, Jacob Ocen, jointly applauded the converts upon reforming and joining the winning team.
According to MP Auma, the converts, who were from the Parishes of Akano and Lwala, made the right decision to join the NRM party.
She urged the converts to embrace various government programs as the only way to create wealth.

“I want you to know that it’s the work of the government to construct roads, hospitals, schools, recruit staff, and bring and maintain peace, but you as a person should work hard to create wealth,” said MP Auma.
She cautioned those who have been in NRM before to welcome the newly converted members and jointly mobilize for all government programs.
MP Auma, who was recently rated as one of the top-performing legislators in Lango according to the Parliamentary ranking, is currently on a wealth creation mobilization drive in her constituency.
A few months ago, MP Auma distributed several kuroiler chicks to several farmer groups in a bid to empower local people.
