On Sunday, June 9th, 2024, the National Chairman of Patriotic League Uganda, PLU Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, named the top leadership of the group in Lango.
Minister Dr. Jane Aceng and Kwania MP Tony Ayo, among others, were appointed to head PLU in Lango.
MP Ayo has welcomed his appointment, explaining that this will never interfere with their work as committed cadres of the ruling NRM Party as being portrayed by a section of people.
“I have noticed that, following my recent appointment as deputy PLU Coordinator for Lango Sub-region by our leader and CDF Gen. Kainerugaba, some groups have started portraying a bad impression on NRM as losing its prominent members/carders to PLU,” said MP Ayo.
He said, “I wish to inform you that there is no contradiction or conflict between the PLU and the NRM party under the leadership of Gen. Rtd. and the CIC Kaguta Museveni.”
MP Ayo, who is also the whip of all NRM legislators from Lango, said the PLU is not a political party but rather a platform focused on championing patriotic actions by the citizens in combating corruption and wastage of public resources, the now-desired reforms for the socioeconomic transformation of Uganda.
“Our focus on the common good associated with the emergence of PLU must override the cheap politics. My commitment to our party’s values and mission remains unwavering, and I will continue to work towards our party’s goals,” explained MP Ayo.
According to him, this new role allows him to apply the NRM party’s ideologies of patriotism, pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy in a different context of building bridges and driving positive change.
“Thank you for your continued support. I’m excited to contribute to the greater good while remaining true to our party’s principles,” noted Ayo.
Minister Dr. Aceng has equally welcomed the appointment and vowed to deliver her roles to the maximum.
“I comprehend the importance of this role and will diligently ensure that the team coordinates PLU’s activities with harmony and unity in Lango and Uganda at large at the core of our efforts,” said Minister Aceng.
