The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga, has revealed why the top leadership of the opposition National Unity Platform party must adjust accordingly if the dream of removing dictators is to be achieved.
After keeping silent about the bitter internal fight within NUP, Mpuuga on Tuesday broke the news about his recent disagreement with Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.
While addressing journalists at Parliament, Mpuuga penetratingly expressed his dismay with the party’s leadership style of resolving conflict.
“Whenever party members encounter disagreements, there should be mechanisms in place to facilitate mature resolutions. It is crucial to refrain from grandstanding and settling political scores at the expense of the reputation of fellow comrades, with whom we have struggled to provide the country with better leadership,” said Mpuuga.
Mpuuga questioned why Bobi Wine and his team don’t want to be held accountable to those they are leading and further wondered why the group opted to target him as an individual within the party while in disguise promoting rule by accountability.
According to Mpuuga, Bobi Wine and his wild team are never up to promoting accountability because social media or press conferences are not the platforms for holding individuals accountable,” said Mpuuga.
“I am the founder of the National Unity Platform. I didn’t join NUP; I was part of its foundation, serving as the Deputy President in Charge of Buganda. I want to reaffirm that I am not leaving NUP, a party I consciously founded with my colleagues. I am not here to destroy or dismantle it. No one has convinced me to even consider deserting a party I helped establish,” Mpuuga added.
In her letter to NUP, the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, trashed the move to recall Mpuuga from being the parliamentary commissioner.
