The former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, is among the senior officials in Kabale district to celebrate the thanksgiving event to celebrate the reopening of the Katuna-Gatuna border between Uganda and Rwanda.
On Wednesday morning, the chief guest at the event, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the Special Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations, met and held an exclusive meeting with the former police boss at White Horse in Kabale, ahead of the Rukundo Engumeho celebrations later in the day. A source revealed that Gen. Kayihura’s movement to Kabale to participate in the event stemmed from the presidential decision to lift the inter-district travel ban that was imposed against him following his arrest some years ago.
“President Museveni has lifted the inter-district travel restrictions slammed against the former IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura as he has allowed him to take part in Wednesday’s thanksgiving ceremony for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Kabale district,” a source confirmed.
Since he was fired and subsequently arrested, the former Police Chief Gen. Kayihura has been living at his Kasagama Farm in Lyantonde District.
The event has attracted thousands of Rwandans and Ugandans, who have gathered at the border amid heavy deployment to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
More than 30 buses have crossed from Rwanda into Uganda, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement among the locals during the celebration.
