While addressing the ongoing NRM parliamentary Caucus retreat at the National Leadership Institute-Kyankwanzi on May 31st, 2023, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the first time broke silence regarding the famous Muhoozi Project, or the Standby Generator.
According to Museveni, Muhoozi’s project evolved from the weaknesses that exist within the NRM party, and he is currently handling it personally with Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the group.
“Now the issue of the standby generator group—that one I am handling with Muhoozi and his group. This issue of Muhoozi is partly due to the weaknesses of the NRM,” said President Museveni.
Museveni also praised Gen.Muhoozi for fighting corruption within the army using his strict style of administration and management.
“Within the army itself, there was also some corruption, and Muhoozi had been very strict on that. So that’s why I saw that there was some sort of resistance movement within the resistance movement,” he noted.
You remember when Muhoozi celebrated his 48th birthday, there was some enthusiasm among some of the youth in Kampala and some of the other areas. And when I analyzed it, I would see that, because of the weaknesses of our systems, some of the frustrated youth went to that group thinking that there was hope, said Museveni.
Recently, President Museveni met Gen. Muhoozi and his team at State House, Entebbe, and according to the president, he is convinced that Muhoozi and his group will all join the NRM.
