The Otuke County Member of Parliament, Paul Omara, has raised concerns about the rampant cattle rustling in Lango and some parts of Acholi sub-regions, saying those behind the raids are wearing military uniforms.
“The military is already involved in the spate of insecurity in Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja, but some of the people loading the cattle are in military uniform. Where are they getting the uniforms from?
MP Omara suspects that there are some elements within the UPDF that could be sabotaging us as a community.
While appearing on the NBS morning Breeze show on Monday, MP Omara wanted the government to compensate those who had been rustled.
“Those who have lost their animals and relatives should be compensated by the government. Killings have happened, people have been displaced, and recently I was informed that the masses are moving their cattle away from Otuke,” MP Omara said.
Residents in the sub-counties who are affected by the current wave of cattle raids in Otuke District are resorting to moving their animals to the nearby districts or relying on established kraals guarded by the UPDF and Anti-Stock Theft Unit.
The locals are still waiting for the government’s intervention to curb the cattle raids that have seen more than 400 herds of cattle raided in a spate of four months.
Susan Abeja, the Otuke district woman MP, recently said Defense Minister Gen. David Muhoozi is due to visit Otuke district to ascertain the current deteriorating security situation.
President Yoweri Museveni cited laxity among UPDF Commandeers conducting operation against cattle rustler sin Karamoja. The President said he will soon pitch camp in the region to supervise the operation himself.

Hon Paul your view is very evidentual
Yesterday as was traveling from Abim to Lira I show three man in UPDF uniform (looks very new uniforms) running with the caws of about ten towards Abim. This made me thinking how can UPDF be involved in cattle keeping in the middle of no where, if the MP have come out with this statement, I agree with him. My question is this, is this the government project to keep the northern people in poverty or is a deliberate move to reduce the population of the northern people in Uganda for other projects?
