The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, has attributed the success of police operations to a robust crime intelligence directorate that is built on a proactive network of credible informants and strategic partnerships with the community, including the ghetto youth and other intelligence components.
IGP Okoth Ochola said this has enabled police to successfully disrupt and dismantle criminals targeting the country, adding that the hard work of the police, in coordination with sister security agencies, and the reorganization of CID improved detection and investigation.
This was contained in the end-of-year and Christmas message read for him at the police headquarters in Naguru by SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, on Friday, December 22nd, where he said the year 2023 has been an exceptionally busy year with many challenges.
Ghetto youths are popularly known for being aligned with the Opposition National Unity Platform party headed by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
IGP Ochola further said the expansion of the motorcycle squads, visible tactical and operational teams, expansive community policing, forensic science, the increased deployment of technology, and 2500 additional police officers, among other initiatives, aided police success.
Police record shows captured some of the notable incidents, including the tragic New Year concert at Freedom City, attacks on police stations and posts, and cattle raids within Karamoja and the neighboring districts as some of the challenging incidents that dominated the year 2023, attacks on schools including Lhubirira SSS, attacks by violent actors and ADF rebels, murders arising from domestic violence, land conflicts, and armed robberies, among others.
