Security has recovered a total of 40 herds of cattle raided from Otuke district by the Karamojong rustlers a few days ago.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying the animals were stolen from Ogwete and Olilim sub-counties.
According to SP Okema, security first recovered 15 cows raided from Ogwete over the weekend by the rustlers and later intercepted some 25 animals.
He says no cattle rustler was arrested during the operation by the security forces since they fled in disarray.
The police have now instructed local residents to be armed with a whistle for blowing whenever they come under attack by the rustlers to create an urgent community alert and also call security immediately.
Early this year, while in the Acholi sub-region, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni pledged to deal with the raiders decisively once they didn’t stop causing insecurity within the East Acholi and Lango sub-regions.
