The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, also the Bukedea district woman MP have returned a total of 500 iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region to the Office of the Prime Minister.
While opening the Parliamentary plenary session on Wednesday, Speaker Among said she took the decision to return the above iron sheets to OPM after a thorough analysis and realizing that they were never meant to benefit her people in Bukedea district.
Speaker Among is among top government officials, including Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja, Ministers, and MPs, who received the iron sheets from OPM believed to have been meant for the Karamoja subregion.
“I have always said that I got a call that the iron sheets had been delivered to my district, and I instructed them to give it to schools. Little did I know that it was meant for Karamoja.I have taken a personal decision as a leader that since it was not meant for my people of Bukedea, I have bought 500 iron sheets and sent them back to OPM,” said Speaker Among.
MP John Baptist Nambeshe, who represented LOP during today’s sitting, applauded Speaker Among for the decision she took to return the iron sheets.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently directed the police and IGG to investigate and bring to book leaders involved in the mismanagement of Karamoja relief once they are found culpable.
