The leadership of Tekwaro Lango has clarified the misleading media statement issued by the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Peace Mutuuzo, which claims that their leader, Eng. Dr. Michael Odongo Okune, has resigned.
On Thursday, November 9, 2023, the administration of Tekwaro Lango clarified that, whereas they are fully committed to the ongoing reconciliation for lasting peace and unity in Lango, Dr. Okune has not resigned and is in total support of unifying the two factions.
“We are glad that, as Owitong (clan chiefs) in Lango from the two factions have come together to reconcile and work together, This is not about our Eng. Dr. Okune or Odur Yosam; we know that as clan leaders, we can reconcile and work together. We want her to keep quite on our affairs and retract her statement about the alleged resignation of our leader,” reads, in part, a brief statement from Tekwaro Lango.
A highly placed source at the Tekwaro Lango Secretariat revealed that their leader, Eng. Dr. Okune, is fully committed to the ongoing reconciliation and closely guiding the team to successfully achieve the peace mission.
According to Tekwaro Lango, this is the time to embrace the unity of Lango to foster clear leadership since both factions have accepted to work together for peace under one leader to be appointed soon.
“This is not the time for harsh comments regarding the ongoing reconciliation; it’s very sensitive and has cost Lango for years. We appeal to everyone to support the cause and allow Owitong (clan chiefs) to fully achieve peace,” said a source at Tekwaro Lango.
The statement also cautioned Minister Mutuuzo to first stay away from making lethal statements, which can detail the ongoing reconciliation of the two factions since the government has for long failed.
Two factions of clan heads aligned with the Tekwaro Lango and Lango Cultural Foundation recently launched a reconciliation drive that aims at reconciling and ensuring that a unifying leader is appointed following the notification to step down by Yosam Odur’s administrations, sometime in 2024.
They have also formed an independent group to analyze the two constitutions and amalgamate them before a new leader is elected.
