Uganda to Host 27th Commonwealth Speakers’ Conference in 2024

Date:

Uganda has been selected to host the 27th Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), due from January 3–6, 2024.

This was resolved during the ongoing CSPOC in Canberra, Australia, being attended by over 1000 delegates from 32 common-wealth countries.

The deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, who was also elected the vice chairperson of the CSPOC, described the opportunity to host the conference as a vote of confidence for the country and the government.

“It means a lot of money is coming to our people; it means critical stakeholders who support our country will come to see how we use the money they give us,” he explained.

Moses Wetagula, the speaker of the Kenya National Assembly, pledged the support of all E.A. countries to Uganda while organizing the event in 2024.

A number of delegates expressed their delight in visiting Uganda in 2024, and the Canadian Speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota, said that he is attracted to the natural resources of Uganda and that he cannot wait to visit Murchison Falls. Anthony added that he looks forward to building a relationship with Uganda.

The chairperson of the 26th conference and speaker of the House of Representatives in Australia, Milton Dick, also said he looked forward to visiting the “Jewel of Africa.”

The event will be an opportunity to showcase Uganda’s beauty by showcasing some of its tourism sites.
