Jacob Kiplimo, Uganda’s long distance runner, has won another gold medal during the New York City Half Marathon held on Sunday, May 19, 2023.
Kiplimo touched the finishing line at 1:01:31, while his countrymate Joshua Cheptegei crossed the finishing line at 1:02:09, bringing back to Uganda a silver medal to be accompanied by a cash package of UGX 38,000,000. Kiplimo brings home about Ugx73M.
Morocco’s Zouhair Talbi came in third with a time of 1:02:09 to earn $5000 (UGX 18,000,000).
“I did my best despite the coldness. I am happy for this very victory. The race was good from start to finish,” Kiplimo said.
Kenya’s Hellen Obiri won the women’s version after clocking 1:07:21, a course record ahead of Ethiopia’s Senbere Telfei (1:07:55) and Great Britain’s Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal (1:09:53).
