The Grade one Magistrate’s Court in Mpigi yesterday Thursday January 19th 2023, charged and remanded four suspects in connection with examination malpractice.
It is alleged that between November 8th and 9th 2022, whereas the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) were being conducted countrywide, the accused were in possession of electrical examination material/ information and were equally involved in electrical transmission of the same information.
The accused include; Mukasa Desire, Bbuye Francis Philemon, Ssebuuma Frank, Ssebuma Frank JB and others who are still at large.
The Grade One Magistrate HW Fatuma Nabirye, charged the accused with aiding and abetting examination malpractice, contrary to Section 36 of the UNEB Act 2021. They are also charged with another account of unauthorized possession of examination paper, material or information contrary to section 25 of the UNEB Act.
According to the UNEB Act 2021, if the accused are found guilty of the offences they are liable to a maximum penalty of imprisonment for ten years as well as a fine of 2000 currency points (Shs40M) or both.
The accused have been remanded to Mpigi prison until February 1st, 2023 when they will return to court for further hearing.
