The joint operation by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo operating in Mwalika Valley under the 15th battalion on Tuesday, August 8th, rescued three (03) more children after an encounter with a group of ADF rebels.
During the encounter, two rebels were killed by the joint force, and a rocket-propelled gun (RPG) launcher was recovered from the terrorists.
“The three children who were in dire health conditions and in need of medical attention are currently undergoing treatment and monitoring by the UPDF medical personnel,” said Major Bilal Katamba, the Spokesperson of the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa.
He adds that the joint force also has two submachine guns from two ADF rebel fighters who surrendered on Sunday.
“Following their surrender to the joint forces on August 6, 2023, ADF rebels yesterday led the joint forces to where they had hidden their weapons and subsequently recovered the two submachine guns (SMGs),” said Maj. Bilal.
The joint forces continue to comb the Valley of Mwalika to clear it of all terrorists and continue with their efforts to rescue more children and women.
