Why Akena Obote, UPC MPs Tailed in Recent Parliamentary Ranking: Voters Vow to Revenge

Date:

Recently, Ugandans got engulfed in a mixed political discussion following the release of a performance report from the 3rd session of the 11th Parliament, which ranked some legislators as the worst performers.

In Lango, about 15 out of the 33 MPs from spoke less than 15 times, and today we profile legislators from the UPC led by their Party President, Jimmy Akena Obote, who have perennially dominated the list of worst-performing members in the House ever since 2021.

MP JIMMY JAMES MICHAEL OBOTE is the Lira City East MP, a husband to Minister Betty Amongi, and also the UPC Party President.

In the last election, Akena contested with NRM Apollo Onyango and James Ocen, both eloquently powerful politicians.

In Proverbs 11:14, God said, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” In view of the above, some pundits believe that MP Akena seemed to have failed to turn his followers into effective representatives.

MP Akena talked only three times, and one of those was when he eulogized the late Cecilia Atim Ogwal when her body was taken to Parliament. He has been in Parliament since 2006, but his ranking has remained unattractive and wanting.

Despite his worst performance in the house, MP Akena is a strong political force in Lango owing to the love and unique attachment that Lango people have continued to uphold for his late father, Dr. Apollo Milton Obote.

UPC is currently in partnership with NRM, a move that could evict the majority of NRM MPs from the house in 2026.

MP MAXWELL AKORA of Maruzi County, is serving his 3rd term in Parliament on the UPC party ticket and also a close relative  to MP Akena Obote. In the last session, Akora didn’t open his mouth during plenary sessions.

It is believed that MP Akora only opened his mouth to laugh and mummer at the series of sarcastic submissions by famous legislators like Ssemujju Nganda while attacking Mama Janet, the First Lady.

He was also often not available at Parliament, which could have hindered his performance. For all the 87 sittings held in the 3rd session of Parliament, MP Akora never talked even once.

MP SHEDRICK OBONG EYIT of Lira City also closely followed the footsteps and strict guidance of his party President Akena, who taught him not to talk in Parliament at all.

Obong, a hardened UPC stalwart, spoke for nothing time (00) for the 87 sittings held within the one year. He never wanted to disappoint or act contrary to the lessons he learned from MP Akena.

His attempt to seek re-election has been equated to the long-awaited second coming of Jesus Christ, which has never materialized as many continue to wait.

Shockingly, for all the 87 sittings held, MP Obong Eyit is further believed to have only opened his mouth to wonder about Speaker Anita Among’s latest model Mercedes, which she gifted her husband MP Magogo with.

Sources at Parliament said Obong could only talk while admiring the smartness of Army Generals (MPs) in their military fatigue.

MP PATRICK OCAN of Apac Municipality talked only seven times in the last session of Parliament.

He is serving his second term in Parliament. He is said to be a good student of MP Jimmy Akena Obote.

His performance record has remained disappointingly low since the 10th parliament.

Thanks to the glaring performances of MPs Jonathan Odur, Santa Alum Ogwang, and Dr. Eunice Oyuku, Kenny Auma Lapat, Minister Betty Amongi, and Okae Bob, all from UPC

In the next edition, we shall look into another batch of UPC MPs, including Nelson Okello Lemba, and some of the worst-performing NRM legislators, including Abeja Susan, Christine Akello, Olobo James Dubai, Betty Awor Engola, etc.

  1. The writing was targeting Akena but even if you attack him a 1000 times, you will never change anything. The best leader is that who act not just talking. What will the locals benefit from talking without actions? Not everyone was borne to be a public speaker. Who doesn’t know that Akena is a great thinker in this Uganda? When you ask him on issues of public matters, does he answer well or wrong lyrics?
The writer’s nonsense will go out for good in 2025 where we shall tolerate no one speaking ill about the next president
