The decision to appoint Health Minister Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero to head the Patriotic League Uganda coordination team in the Lango Sub region has sparked a huge political panic.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the national chairman of PLU, announced on Sunday, June 9th, 2020, the appointment of Dr. Aceng as the overall Coordinator, which will be deputized by Kwania MP Tony Ayo, who is also the whip of all NRM MPs from Lango.
A source close to Gen. Muhoozi revealed that Dr. Aceng’s appointment was based on a series of technical political advices from top power welders who had identified her as a strong mobilization guru with credible commitment, as proved in the previous elections.
It should also be noted that President Museveni has in recent months tasked the Intelligence Service to identify a reliable political leader who can be empowered to become the next Lango Political Kingpin to coordinate the 2026 election campaigns.
The move is to identify someone whose voice can be a uniting factor for the people of Lango. In the past, he used the late Ben Ogwang Ochoo and former Minister Sam Engola.
The source noted that with the guidance of Gen. Muhoozi’s top advisers, including Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and Gen. Salim Saleh, among others, and the blessing of President Museveni, Minister Aceng was then identified as the possible political kingpin in Lango once fully empowered.
Following the ousting of former Minister Sam Engola, both from Cabinet and CEC, Lango remained without anyone to unite the region, thanks to the save of GCW Denis Hamson Obua, who had in recent years been trying to act in this capacity.
With her appointment as the PLU Coordinator, Minister Dr. Aceng will now be engaging directly with Gen. Muhoozi, whose intentions are quite aligned with the ruling National Resistance Movement headed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on a regular basis.
“I would like to appreciate the trust and confidence that my brother Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has placed in appointing me as Coordinator, Lango Sub region,” said Dr. Aceng.
Minister Dr. Aceng further said: “I comprehend the importance of this role and will diligently ensure that the team coordinates PLU’s activities with harmony and unity in Lango and Uganda at large at the core of our efforts.”
A highly placed source has revealed that Aceng’s appointment was directly okayed by President Kaguta, who often approves the operations of the PLU team under Gen. Muhoozi.
According to some political pundits, the appointment of Aceng now puts Gender Minister Betty Amongi’s attempt to evict her from Lira City in 2026 at terrible political limbo.
“With Aceng appointed to lead PLU’s operations in Lango with the approval of top NRM strategies, this means she has been empowered by Minister Amongi’s political arrogance,” a pundit said.
Minister Amongi who represents Oyam South has since declare interests to oust Minister Aceng from Parliament come 2026 elections.
