Dr. Rosemary Alwoc has confirmed she will be contesting on the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party ticket in the Dokolo by-election to replace her mother, late MP Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal.
On Monday, February 12th, the Electoral Commission Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama, confirmed that the by-election to replace Ogwal will be conducted on March 21st.
While appearing on Lira City’s Radio 94.3 QFM during a talkback show on Tuesday, February 13th, Dr. Alwoc, who was accompanied by her brother, said she is willing to continue with her late mother’s legacy on FDC tickets.
Without denying her engagement with NRM, Dr. Alwoc confirmed that the FDC party will, in due time, unveil her as the official flag bearer in the Dokolo by-election.
“If I’m to continue with her legacy this term, it’s only best to continue with it on the FDC ticket. I know they will soon unveil everything. I also want to note that my late mother’s supporters belong to different parties and religions, so the party color won’t be a dividing factor,” said Dr. Alwoc.
The NRM party is yet to make an official statement regarding the decision by Alwoc.
Dr.Alwoc had previously engaged in a negotiation with some top officials in the ruling NRM party.
A total of 16 women have so far expressed interest in contesting the by-election.
