President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have skipped Martyrs Day commemoration prayers at Namugongo on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023.

He delegated Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to represent the government during this year’s celebrations, which attracted over 2 million people, as per the estimate.

It has since emerged that President Museveni opted to skip this year’s Martyrs Day (Namugongo) to allow him to concentrate on the ongoing 10-day NRM Party Caucus meeting at the National Leadership Institute (Kyankwanzi), where he has continued to hold several meetings with various guests and delegates both from within and outside Uganda.

Both President  and First Lady held a special prayer sessions at NALI, Kyankwanzi, to commemorate the day.

“This morning, we took time off the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Retreat to hold an interreligious service, in honor of the Uganda Martyrs’ Day. It is not uncommon for us to celebrate big religious days in the “bush” and I thank the celebrants and the organisers because, although we didn’t go to Namugongo, we have shared a good message before going back to caucus business,” said President Museveni.

The retreat is running under the theme “increasing household incomes and wealth creation: the critical role of the leader.”
