A few weeks ago, Kole district LCV Chairperson Andrew Moses Awany appeared in a joint talk show on a local station in Lira City with Kole North County MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti also the Chairperson of Roads Committee in Kole discussing the alleged irregularities in the management of funds meant for road construction and maintenance.
During the talk show, Awany denied any irregularities in Kole district, especially in the engineering department (roads), and blamed local leaders, including MPs Dr. Opio, Judith Alyek (DWR), and Peter Ocen Akalo of Kole South, for causing unrealistic panic and allegations.
Our impeccable source at the State House Anti-Corruption Unit revealed that while Awany went viral defending the alleged irregularities, police detectives and investigators have unearthed a dozen of fraud in the roads department.
This has led to the arrest of the senior procurement officer, Leo Conrad Atine, on Tuesday, July 2nd. Natasha Mariam, the spokesperson for the unit, said Atine and others still at large are accused of defrauding and mismanaging one billion shillings from the Uganda Roads Fund.
According to the findings that were submitted to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit by the MPs for proper attention, they included inflating the cost of road construction, ghost supplies of services including fuel, and false accountability from the unit.
This publication has also learned that about three top bosses in Kole district are currently being investigated over the same allegations, and they will soon be harvested by the police detectives.
